Each year, the NJCMA recognizes student-athletes from across the country who achieve excellence in the classroom in addition to their efforts in their chosen sport. Nine Everest University student-athletes have been named to the 2021-2022 NJCMA All-Academic Teams.

Everest University Volleyball players Kylee Barry and MAliyah Montgomery were named to the All-Academic First Team after each achieving a GPA of 4.00 for the 2021-2022 academic year. Kayla Desmartin (cross country), Kyla Desmartin (cross country), Taria Liles (volleyball), and Mackenzie Meyers (volleyball) were named to the Second Team. Eric Canavan (basketball), Nicholas Cross (basketball), and Brianna Tucker (volleyball) were named to the Third Team.

“I am so proud of our Timberwolves,” said Everest University President Dr. Lawrence Barrett. “Our focus for our athletes has always been on academics as well as sports. Both are equal in importance, and these awards continue to show that it is working.”

In order to be selected for the All-Academic Teams, student-athletes must attain an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the academic year, with eligibility for each team as follows:

  • NJCMA All-Academic First Team                  4.00 GPA
  • NJCMA All-Academic Second Team            3.80-3.99 GPA
  • NJCMA All-Academic Third Team                3.60-3.79 GPA

“We are really proud of all our athletes that were named to the All-Academic teams,” said Chris Hackett, Everest University Athletic Director. “Being able to make a such a big commitment to their sport, while still achieving at a high level in the classroom, is the true definition of a student-athlete.”

Since the return of the Everest University Athletics in the 2017-2018 year, the goal of the program has been to foster well-rounded student-athletes who excel in the classroom as well as on the court, field, and track and who represent Everest University well in all aspects of their collegiate careers. The whole college community congratulates these athletes acknowledged by the NJCMA for their hard work and dedication.
