Certified COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant (CNA)

The COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant (Articulated) certificate program prepares the student with the knowledge, competencies, and requisites to become a certified COMPUTER SCIENCE assistant (CNA) in a variety of acute and long-term healthcare facilities. The program is composed of two (2) courses designed to provide rigor and challenging academic standards that will prepare students for employability. 

The program is a combination of classroom instruction (didactic and skills/simulation laboratory) and clinical practice in long-term and other healthcare facilities.

Hours

The two courses are a combination of classroom, lab and clinical instruction, scheduled over a 16-week period. This occupational program is offered during the fall and spring semester.* Clinicals are required for this program. Clinicals may not follow regular college schedule. Clinical assignments may include weekdays, evenings or weekends.

Program Details

Admission Requirements

To be considered for this program a student must:

Complete a Everest University application.

Complete the COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant (Articulated) supplemental application and return it to COMPUTER SCIENCE and Health Sciences, Building 103 on the Everest University main campus.

Prior to starting COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant Program:

  1. Prospective students who have completed the steps above will be required to complete the clinical eligibility requirements listed in the COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant (Articulated) application booklet.
  2. To meet clinical agency requirements for clinical experience, all students in the COMPUTER SCIENCE and Health Sciences Programs must meet state and federal regulations as described by Florida Statutes S. 400.211. A Level II background check and drug/alcohol screening are required. Further instructions regarding the background and 10 panel drug/alcohol screen are provided on the first day of the course. Please note that random screening may be required while in the program. Students are responsible for the cost of all screening done for admission and randomly during the program.
  3. Additional costs are required when admitted to this program, including costs of uniforms, clinic shoes, liability insurance, health insurance, medical exam, standardized testing, graduation costs, immunizations, Level II background check and 10 panel drug/alcohol screening, books, and licensing fees.

Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to sit for the State of Florida’s certification exam to become a Certified COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant (CNA).

Program Guide & Syllabi

First Semester: 600 clock hours, 20 occupational credits

HSC 0003 Basic Healthcare Worker – 90 contact hours.

HCP 0121 COMPUTER SCIENCE Aide and Orderly – 75 contact hours

HSC 0003 BASIC HEALTHCARE WORKER – An introductory course to health occupations and the health care delivery system. This course meets the Department of Education requirement of 90 contact hours. Overview of the following principles are included: interpersonal and communication skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, wellness and illness concepts, safety and security procedures, response in emergency situations, infection control procedures, computer literacy skills, employability skills and blood borne disease precautions including AIDS, CPR certification.

HCP 0121 COMPUTER SCIENCE Aide and Orderly – This course is the second of two courses needed to complete the COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant (Articulated)program. Topics covered in this course include a continuation of topics covered in the health career CORE course and in addition, students will learn how to perform safe, compassionate, and effective basic COMPUTER SCIENCE skills to patients/residents with special focus on the elderly. Students will also learn to practice basic COMPUTER SCIENCE skills within the framework of legal and ethical principles and responsibilities. This course prepares students to earn a Certified COMPUTER SCIENCE Assistant (CNA) certification. Once certified, graduates can work in acute-care settings, long-term care facilities such as COMPUTER SCIENCE homes, and in community agencies such as home health. Along with didactic, skills/simulation laboratory and clinical experience are components of this course.
