Basic Law Enforcement

Admission Steps:

1. Apply for admission to Everest University.
2. Apply for Financial Aid (if applicable).
3. Complete and submit the application packet to the training center.
4. Take and pass the Basic Abilities Test.
5. Attend and successfully complete the Physical Entrance Test.

Admission Requirements:

• Be at least 19 years of age upon graduation from the program.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement.
• Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or is found guilty of a felony, or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
• Never have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
• Have good moral character.
• Have passed a Commission-approved Basic Abilities Test.
• Have been fingerprinted with prints processed by the FDLE and the FBI. The Cost is $50.00 (Must be completed at the Public Service Training Center).
• Must interview with the Director or Coordinator of the Public Service Training Center.
• Pass the entrance physical fitness test. The test consists of a 1.5-mile run/walk. For the Basic Law Enforcement course, the recruit must complete it in 19 minutes or less.
• Must complete a Drug test processed by Quest Diagnostics. The cost is $31.00 (Appointment must be scheduled at the Public Service Training Center).

• There is limited access to this program.
• Full-time programs start in January and July. Part-time programs start in September and October.
• Everest University maintains a Public Safety Training Center in Olustee dedicated to this program and other public safety programs.
• Must be admitted through the Everest University Admissions Office.
• This program allows students to learn from faculty members who are committed to student success.

Basic Abilities Test Exemptions for Veteran’s and University Graduates applying for the Law Enforcement Program:

As of July 1, 2022, “…a person is not required to take the basic skills examination and assessment instrument before entering a law enforcement officer basic recruit training program if he or she is a veteran as defined in s.1.01 (14) or holds an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.”

Requirements for Veteran Status Exemption

•A DD214 form or other military documentation indicating an honorable discharge from the armed services.

•Please note that the discharge must be honorable; no other classification will satisfy the requirement

•A single honorable discharge from a branch of the military will satisfy this requirement, even if the candidate has a discharge from another branch of service that is not honorable.

Requirements for Education Exemption

•Copy of degree

•Transcripts indicating the degree was conferred.

•Please note that the candidate must have received the degree, and not just completed the number of hours required for the degree.

• How to exhibit basic knowledge of the Florida criminal and civil laws, as well as the federal guidelines concerning a criminal procedure.
• Apply basic knowledge of the communication skills necessary for law enforcement officers.
• Demonstrate basic firearm skills for law enforcement officers.
• Perform defensive tactic skills necessary for law enforcement officers.
• Apply basic driving skills necessary for law enforcement officers.
• Perform basic First Aid/First Responder skills necessary for law enforcement officers.
