Program Overview

Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician-Combined, O.C.

Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician Combined is a two (2) semester program, offered each term, that prepares the student for employment as a Florida-certified Firefighter. The curriculum adheres to the latest NFPA standards, BFST course curriculum, the Florida Department of Education Curriculum Framework, and national standards. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the State of Florida EMT certification exam and the State of Florida Firefighter certification exam.

The Firefighter/EMT-Combined Program will start with the EMT course which is available each fall, spring, and summer semester, followed by the firefighter minimum standard course which is only offered in the fall and spring semesters. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the National Registry EMT and the State of Florida Firefighter certification exams.

Hours

Classes meet 2 out of every 3 days, 7 days per week. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Program Details

Admission Requirements
  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate (unless enrolled as a dual enrollment student).
  • Be 18 years of age by scheduled EMT course completion.
  • Complete a physical examination, provide proof of immunizations or immunity.
  • Pass a detailed background check and drug screen.
  • Take the National Firefighter Selection Inventory (NFSI) exam as well as the TABE test if not Senate bill exempt.
  • Proof of health insurance and current driver’s license.
  • Meet with the Program Coordinator for program acceptance.
