Horticulture, University Credit Certificate (C.C.C.)

Horticulturists apply their knowledge, skills, and technologies used to grow intensively produced plants for human food and non-food uses and for personal or social needs. Their work involves plant propagation and cultivation with the aim of improving plant growth, yields, quality, nutritional value, and resistance to insects, diseases, and environmental stresses.

The horticulture certificate instructs you in the cultivation of all edible plants and non-food crops such as turf and ornamental plants and trees. It also includes plant conservation, landscape design and restoration, golf course maintenance, residential lawn maintenance, and arboriculture.

Admission Requirements

This is an excellent certificate for those who already work or aspire to work in the horticulture industry. These industries include plant and tree nurseries, farming, golf course maintenance, lawn care, and both residential and commercial gardening.  

To be eligible for this program a student must:

  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate,
  • Submit an application to Everest University

This certificate consists of six courses for a total of nineteen credits.  

The courses offered for this certificate are:

  • EVS 1026C Chemistry and Biology of Natural Waters (4 Credits)
  • BOT 1000 Principles of Plant Growth (3 Credits)
  • GCO 1400C Introduction to Turfgrass (3 Credits)
  • GCO 2431 Introduction to Irrigation (3 Credits)
  • ORH 1517 Landscape Plants (3 Credits)
  • SWS 1102 Soils and Fertilizers (3 Credits)

Gold Standard Career Pathways Statewide Articulation Agreement

  1. To be eligible for articulation, the student must show evidence of their current Certified Horticulture Professional certification (FNGLA) and it must have been issued within three (3) years prior to their enrollment in the program.
  2. Guarantees the minimum award of course credits or a block of credit toward the above advanced program is 6 hours of credit.

  • Students will plan, install, and maintain landscape irrigation systems.
